Lisandro Martinez told ‘not to rush’ back from latest injury blow, feeling down

Lisandro Martinez is struggling with injuries this season, with his national team coach urging the player to remain patient.

Manchester United’s injury luck has been well documented this term. Quite frankly, Erik ten Hag has been extraordinarily unfortunate on that front all year. It isn’t letting up anytime soon.

Lisandro Martinez has undoubtedly suffered more than most. He played a couple of games at the start of the term, then went down again. He’d return in late-December, before being ruled out until about a fortnight ago.

Then, his cruel luck continued with a training ground injury this week. He is set to miss another month of action with a calf strain.

Now, journalist Bruno Gonzalez Garcia (via Gaston Recondo) has provided an update on Licha’s situation directly from the Argentine national camp.

Apparently, when learning of the injury blow, Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has been in touch with Licha. He has been told ‘not to rush’ back out onto the field, and to be ‘calm’ about what is a stressful situation.

On top of that, Martinez is understandably said to be ‘down’ about the latest setback. He hasn’t been able to catch a break all season long.

Check out the tweet from Bruno Gonzalez Garcia here:

This is where your family and teammates play their part. It must be gutting for Licha, to suffer three injuries back-to-back-to-back. Perhaps he has been rushed into action too quickly. Maybe it’s just sheer bad luck.

There are still whispers suggesting that Martinez could return before the end of the campaign, but is it really worth it?

I’d seriously consider shutting him down for the remainder of the term, allowing Martinez the time to heal over the summer and come back in pre-season feeling confident – both physically and mentally.

We’re all behind you, Licha.
